Privacy and cookies

Who we are

This website is run by Yes Bikers for Scottish Independence ("YesBikers"), a not for profit group run by volunteers. If you have any questions about this policy or your information, email us at [email protected].

The short version

  • We only collect your email address, and only if you join our newsletter or contact us.
  • We don't use analytics or advertising trackers, and our own pages don't set cookies.
  • Some pages show content from Facebook, YouTube and The National. Those services have their own privacy policies, explained below.
  • We never sell or share your details with anyone else.

Newsletter

If you sign up to our newsletter we collect your email address so we can send you occasional news about events. The mailing list is run for us by IONOS (1&1 IONOS SE, Germany), which stores the list and sends the emails.

We use double opt-in: you'll get an email asking you to confirm, and you won't be added unless you click the link. We only use your address for the newsletter, and we rely on your consent to do so.

You can leave at any time using the unsubscribe option on our home page, or by emailing us, and your address will be removed from the list.

Contacting us

If you email us or message us on Facebook Messenger, we'll see your name, contact details and whatever you send us. We only use this to reply to you and don't add you to any list. Messages sent through Messenger are also handled by Meta under its own privacy policy.

If you join our WhatsApp announcements community, the group admins can see your phone number and WhatsApp name. We only use the group to post YesBikers news and you can leave at any time. WhatsApp is run by Meta and handles messages under its own privacy policy.

Hosting and security

Our website runs on our own server, with Cloudflare in front of it to make the site faster and protect it from attacks. Like almost every website, the server and Cloudflare record basic technical information about each visit, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. We only use this to keep the site running and secure, and it is not used to identify you.

Cloudflare may set a small security cookie to tell real visitors apart from automated bots. This is strictly necessary to protect the site.

Content from other websites

Some pages include content from other services. When your browser loads it, that service receives your IP address and browser information, and may set its own cookies:

  • Facebook (home page): our "Latest from Facebook" box is built by our own server, so Facebook's scripts don't run on this site and it sets no Facebook cookies. Post pictures are loaded from Facebook's image servers. See Meta's privacy policy.
  • YouTube (videos page): videos use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, which doesn't set cookies until you press play. Video thumbnails are loaded from YouTube. See Google's privacy policy.
  • The National (home page): headlines and thumbnail images come from The National's public news feed. Clicking a headline takes you to their website.
  • Google Fonts: our fonts are loaded from Google.

Our online shops are run by SumUp (basic clothing range, patches and gear) and Teemill (premium clothing range), under their own privacy policies. We never see your payment details. When you order from our SumUp shop we receive your name and delivery address so we can post patches and gear to you, and for basic-range clothing we pass them to our printer, Inkthreadable, who print and post your order. We only use them for your order.

Cookies

Our own pages don't set any cookies. The only cookies you may get on this site are:

  • Cloudflare's security cookie (strictly necessary, see above)
  • cookies set by YouTube once you play a video

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, although videos may not play.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or withdraw your consent to the newsletter at any time. Just email [email protected].

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
